Do the Hard Thing

This phrase is my way of telling myself to do the right thing especially if it’s hard, uncomfortable, or scary. This phrase accompanied by “Trust my gut”. Is how I make most of my decisions these days. It has to do with one word – Integrity.

I looked up what you would call someone who has integrity, trustworthy was the answer but I don’t think that tells the whole story.

Here’s a list I go by, well mostly go by. I make misjudgments just like everyone else, mostly because I want something so much.

Integrity is:

· Honesty tempered with kindness

· Keeping personal boundaries

· Actions that match words

· If doing the right thing means doing the hard thing, do the hard thing

I have to admit I’ve been tempted to go ahead and use certain social media platforms to advertise my business because I know I could get more clients. It just doesn’t feel right to advertise a heart-felt business with platforms that profit from hate and disinformation.

I was surprised to find that this stance pushed me to do personal cold calling even though just the thought of doing that terrified me. Doing this hard thing turned out to be not so bad. I found out that there are people out there who genuinely want to help. I made a connection on a cold call that will put my flyer (pictured) in their welcome packets. That’s 60 flyers a month! I call this a win no matter how long it takes me.
