Trust Your Gut

Updated: Jul 16

Listen to Your Inner Voice

I have written pros and cons lists. I have consulted oracle cards, pendulums, and more. I’ve learned that no matter what the divination method, going with my gut is always the right way to go.

It’s not that these methods don’t work, it’s (and it’s so uncanny-freaks me out every time), the right card or message shows up every time. And unsurprisingly, it’s what my intuition, inner voice (or whatever you prefer to call it) was telling me all along.

Trusting my inner voice is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Mostly because I don’t want to hear the message, or put action behind the gut feeling.

The shoulds get in the way. I should just pretend that my family members aren’t toxic. I should keep the peace, keep the secrets, I should go or I should stay. Your gut knows what’s right for you, and many times what’s safe for you. Like-don’t go that way this time or there’s something off about this person or situation.

For example, years ago I used to travel for work between Sacramento, CA and San Francisco. This one trip, on the way home, I was feeling uneasy about taking my most normal route. My inner voice told me to get off the freeway and take a different way. It saved my life. It was the day and time of day that San Francisco experienced an earthquake and the highway I was on collapsed killing and trapping people on the very stretch of road I had just gotten off of.

So, do I always listen to my gut? Mostly, and most definitely eventually (when my shoulds won in the choice game) and my gut goes ‘Told Ya’.

I don’t know why it works, it just does.
